All About the Facts of Teen Smiles

Posted .

Do you want your teen to have a strong and healthy smile? If so, you need to help them maintain top-notch teeth and gums. Unfortunately, this might be a difficult task if you don’t know much about your teen’s smile. So, our dentist, Dr. Cliff Doman, would like to teach you a thing or two about it. To do so, he is happy to share the following facts:

-Your teen’s teeth are very strong, but they can still be damaged in a variety of different ways. In fact, misaligned teeth, acid, bacteria, plaque and sugary, high-carbohydrate and highly acidic foods and drinks can all cause dental issues, like tooth decay, gum disease and enamel erosion.

-Your teen should clean and care for their teeth and gums regularly. In fact, they should brush twice a day, floss once a day, rinse with mouthwash daily and visit our office for a routine dental checkup every six months.

-If your teen has a misaligned smile, now is the best time to consider orthodontic treatment. This is because the jawbone is still developing in the teen years, so orthodontic treatment can be easier and simpler. Little did you know, crooked teeth can negatively affect the oral health more than you might realize.

-Tobacco use, oral piercings and eating disorders are all major dangers to your teen’s smile and oral health. It’s very important to discourage them as much as possible.
