Working with Brushing and Flossing

Posted .

Your best smile awaits. A smile makeover can be yours if you’re willing to put forth a few minutes each day to brush twice daily and floss once daily. Only with effective cleaning treatment such as brushing and flossing can you adequately clean between your teeth on a daily basis to ensure your smile can continue to thrive for decades to come. Just as foods can slowly wear down your teeth and your tooth enamel, brushing and flossing can rinse away the debris to build and strengthen your smile once again.

One of the biggest risks to your toothbrush occurs in the form of contamination. Because your toothbrush will need to be stored on a daily basis, it is important to make sure that the brush bristles remain clean. If for any reason they should become contaminated, bacteria from the brush can find its way into your mouth. Thus, always store your brush in a safe location where bacteria cannot pool or come into contact with the brush head. Ideally, you should replace your brush every three to four months or earlier as needed.

If you decide on using a threaded floss, understand the need to avoid recontamination. This means never using the same strand more than once or even using the same section of a strand more than once. To accomplish this task, move up and down the strand as needed. One helpful way to hold the floss is by wrapping an end of it around each finger. Ideally, this can be done with a strand of floss that is roughly 20 inches in length. Take your time when flossing and never skip any areas between teeth.
